- What interested me about the story in the first place was the peculiar title, "A Horseman in the Sky" and how the story takes place during the Civil War.
- Plot: In the story, The protagonist Carter Druse decides to enlist in the Union's regiment. His father gives his blessings and says that he should do what he thinks his duty is for the Union and that if they both make it to the end, then they will discuss in detail. His father also says that due to his mother's illness she would only make it for a few more weeks in that case those few weeks are vital to her. Due to Carter's conscience, caring, devotion, daring and knowledge of the area he is given the position of sentinel in the Unions regime. He suddenly falls asleep on duty which means he has broken a rule. He is later woken up by an non-human like spirit. He spots a man on a horse who has found the union's regiments so Carter shoots in order to protect the Union's regimes. The sergeant who witnessed the situation does not say a word.Carter later on discovers the horseman was his father.
- Theme: The story was about how military duty was higher than anything. In other words, serving for the Union or the Confederates were more important than anything.
- The story made me think about how during a war, sometimes people's actions are surprising in the way that people do not know if others would go to a greater extent.
- I would recommend this story because it gives a sort of idea of how people might have lived during these times in the civil war.
